Bagging
Bottom-Up Filling
Bottom-Up Filling is an advanced technology designed to transform powder bagging in industrial environments where cleanliness, safety and product quality are critical factors.
Bottom-Up Filling: A New Approach to Powder Bagging
For decades, powder bagging has been carried out using conventional dosing systems that work correctly for numerous products, but present limitations when working with fine particle materials.
The free fall of the product from elevated heights generates air displacement that causes dust clouds, material losses, equipment contamination and greater dependence on extraction and filtration systems.
The bottom-up filling technology completely changes this approach. Instead of allowing the product to fall into the bag, the bag is raised to the dosing point and progressively lowered during filling. In this way, the product’s drop height is practically zero and air displacement is drastically reduced.
How Bottom-Up Filling Technology Works in Powder Bagging
The system developed by PAYPER uses dosing by means of a specially designed vertical screw for powdered products that are difficult to handle.
Once the bag has been positioned at the filling station, it is raised until the bottom of the container is very close to the product outlet. During the dosing process, the bag descends synchronously with the filling, always maintaining a minimum distance between the product and the filling level.
This operating principle makes it possible to minimise dust generation, prevent air from being incorporated into the product and significantly improve the behaviour of the material inside the container.
Benefits of Bottom-Up Filling for Bulk Solids Bagging
The main advantage of this technology is the almost total reduction of dust emissions during the bagging process.
By eliminating the free fall of the product, the dust clouds that normally require the installation of high-capacity extraction systems disappear. This results in cleaner installations, lower maintenance costs and a significant reduction in product losses.
Another important benefit is reduced fluidisation. Fine powdered products tend to absorb air during conveying and filling, generating unstable bags that are difficult to handle. Thanks to the vertical system and the minimum drop height, the product maintains greater density and stability.
The bottom-up filling technology also facilitates equipment cleaning and reduces the risks of cross-contamination between batches, a particularly important feature for the food, chemical and animal nutrition industries.
Industrial Applications of Bottom-Up Filling and Powder Bagging
The advantages of bottom-up filling are particularly valuable in sectors where products have very fine particle sizes or complex behaviour during bagging.
In the chemical industry, it enables safer handling of materials such as carbon black, titanium dioxide, pigments and other highly powdered products.
In the construction materials sector, it improves the bagging of mineral additives, special mortars and abrasive products, reducing wear on filters and extraction systems.
In fertilizers, it helps minimise problems associated with fluidisation and reduces the exposure of equipment to corrosive particles.
Animal nutrition finds an effective solution for premixes and microingredients where cleanliness and cross-contamination prevention are critical factors.
For its part, the food industry can benefit from improved sealing quality for sensitive products such as powdered milk, proteins, functional ingredients and other hygroscopic products.
